Nalu Bowls

‘Beaches and bikinis in Bali’ is what kept me focused towards my fitness and weight loss goals. I managed to lose six kilos and stay curvy in all the right places. I wasn’t going to derail my diet and let all my efforts of consistent workouts and eating clean to go to waste. Unless you’ve been living under a rock – you’d know the #smoothiebowl craze that has taken restaurants, cafes, Instagram and the wellness world by storm. Every blog on Bali was recommending Nalu Bowls and I knew I had to try them out.

Nalu Bowls

This was the first place that popped on my screen when I searched for Places to Eat Healthy in Bali. Completely amazed by their pictures on Instagram and their reviews, I added this place to my list immediately and so should you. It’s the first smoothie bowl shack in the city and part of the newest cafe craze here. I could not visit their branch in Seminyak but luckily they have three others in Canggu, Uluwatu and Ubud. I used to come here and spend my mornings here. Mind you, these smoothie bowls are pretty large and satisfying so they can be a meal in itself.

The word ‘Nalu’ is the Hawaiian term for waves and you’d know how much residents and expats in Bali love surfing and the waves. Naturally,  all of their smoothie bowls are named after waves, like Uluwatu, Pipeline, Mavericks and so on. The prices start from 50k Indonesian Rupiah (approximately 250 bucks in Indian Currency) and it is worth every bit.

I ordered Uluwatu which has a smoothie base of dragon fruit with lots of homemade granola, banana, mango, strawberries and coconut flakes. The purple-coloured base of dragon fruit smoothie was absolutely gorgeous and coupled with colourful fruit and nut toppings- it was almost too pretty to eat.  The food lived up to the hype and tasted better than it looked.

If you have a thing for fresh fruits and healthy breakfasts, Nalu Bowls would certainly bowl you over. I highly recommend that you visit one of their outlets on the island for something refreshing post a swim or surf lesson or even for lunch with friends.

PS: The crew at Nalu Bowls are affable, friendly and super fun folks. When they got to know that we were from India; their first words were ‘Shahrukh Khan’ and they couldn’t stop talking about Bollywood movies. It turns out the locals are well versed with the movies and our songs and they spend their weekends catching up on Bollywood. One of them also sang ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ for us.
