Located in Bangkok’s swish Sathorn business district, the Como Metropolitan Bangkok is a slick 11 floor structure that sits amidst the concrete jungle composed of sky rises and shopping malls. The boutique hotel’s design is a confluence of eastern and western influence, much like the city itself, and features interiors curated by Singapore based interior designer, Katheryn King.
Situated in the southern part of the city, Sathorn is home to some of Thailand’s biggest and most popular shopping malls and markets, delicious street food stalls, and is a great central location to explore some of Bangkok’s cultural hotspots from including the famous night markets as well as a host of bars, restaurants, and night clubs.
Each of Como Metropolitan Bangkok’s 169 rooms and suites are beautifully appointed and offer lots of natural light. The color scheme of simple white walls contrasted with Warm Thai Makha Wood and oxidized-brass paneling, modern paintings, and carefully sourced antiquities gives off a chic and contemporary vibe, while still radiating the elegance that Asian design is famed for. The accommodation choices include four room and three suite types including the luxurious duplex Como Suite, which affords guests with amazing views of the cityscape. The penthouse and COMO suites are really special, if you are looking to celebrate with your loved ones and these suites boast some of the best views of the city.
Dining at the Como Metropolitan Bangkok includes in-room and private dining options as well as two restaurants, and a bar. Glow is a restaurant that prides itself on serving light and healthy meals from the hotel chain’s world famous Como Shambhala Cuisine. Besides healthy food, Glow also specializes in energizing juices, vitamins, and minerals that increase concentration and energy levels. Whereas if it’s local gourmet cuisine that you’re after, the Metropolitan Bangkok’s in-house specialty poolside Thai restaurant called Nahm came in at number five in the 2017 San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna list of Asia’s Top 50 Restaurants. Now, this is my favourite restaurant in town and I must advise you to book a table ahead of time to avoid disappointment. If you are a decent eater, then make way for the set menu but otherwise partake in the specialties like the kingfish with pomelo and the cured catfish relish. The dress code is smart casual and it’s the perfect venue for a romantic candle lit dinner with bae or a great way to celebrate a new job with friends and family.
And once you’re done with your meal, sink into one the sumptuous club chairs set against the backdrop of the Met Bar’s wine-dark walls and enjoy an inventive cocktail. The Met Bar is an ideal spot for casual meetings and late night drinks. In-room dining is also available round the clock for guests who are feeling peckish and prefer to have a languid meal in the privacy of their own room.
To cap of the city-hotel experience, the Metropolitan Bangkok also features the Como Shambhala Urban Escape- a spa focused on personalizing fitness and wellness for all its visitors. The minimalist aesthetics are intended to be soothing and provides guests with an easy escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, whereas the main focus of the center is to provide unmatched body and facial therapies. Physical wellness amenities include a fully stocked gymnasium as well as a 25m outdoor swimming pool. Some of the therapies on offer at the Como Shambhala Urban Escape include Asian-inspired massages, reflexology, detoxifying skin treatment, a wide range of facials that only use high-end Guinot and Tres’ Homme products, and multiple cleanse programs. The hotel also has a complimentary weekly schedule that includes daily yoga, meditation as well as talks on nutrition. For an urban escape, it doesn’t get better than this and you can be assured that you are in the best hands and watch your stress melt away.
Guests can rent a car at the hotel and head to the Chatuchak markets, visit the Grand Palace and soak in all the sights at the floating market. If you wish to do something different, you can play 9 holes at the Thai Country Golf Club or watch a game of Muay Thai at Lumpini Boxing Stadium. The hotel ensures that there’s something for every guest, depending on your interests and energy levels on that day.
Verdict: The COMO Metropolitan Bangkok is a perfect stop for those who seek to explore the city’s many attractions whilst sitting in the lap of luxury. Not only is the concierge more than happy to tailor make experiences for its guests, but it also does so in as sustainable a way as possible as the hotel chain has taken pains to ensure a low carbon footprint. So if it’s a combination of luxury living, shopping, nightlife, and cultural sight seeing that you’re after, the Como Metropolitan Bangkok should see itself make its way into your shortlist of places to stay in. Don’t forget to spend some time at the pool, grab a cocktail after-hours at the Met Bar and make a reservation at Nahm for the best Thai food in the city.
