I met Maia a few months ago at an event and we got along like a house on fire. This Delhi/Bombay based influencer is a model, wellness enthusiast, and a fashion blogger. She also helps her family run their travel company called Shakti Himalaya. When Maia isn’t shooting or blogging, she loves to pack in a kickboxing session or spend time with her dogs. I asked her to participate and share with my readers what she eats on a typical day and here is what she had to say-
I decided to turn vegetarian but decided to keep eggs and fish (not crustaceans) in my diet so that I can meet my protein requirements. I have to admit that it hasn’t been easy but I am enjoying the process very much.
Breakfast:
Weekdays are usually really rushed and busy for me; I wake up and have a cup of warm water and lemon, while I lie in bed, hoping to be airlifted to the bathroom. I have either have a bowl of fruit or something a bit more filling like avocado on multigrain toast or a poached egg along with buttermilk to boost my calcium intake and help prevent acidity. Having a substantial breakfast keeps me sated until lunch and keeps my blood sugar stable too.
Snack
Mid-morning snacking is usually coconut water or apple slices with some almond butter at the office. I help myself to a soy latte if I need a little boost.
Lunch
Lunch is usually on the go or at work. The heat seems to be affecting my appetite and I don’t feel inclined to eat a hot meal so I usually make do with a light tuna and mix leaf salad with some avocado.
Snack
If I am in the mood for a snack between lunch and dinner, it’s usually a small portion of Greek yogurt with some fruit. Other times, it is a cup of tea with a few digestive, high-fibre cookies.
Evening workout:
I try to make it back from work in time to take my dogs to the park for a jog. I look forward to this all day most because being in the outdoors is extremely therapeutic and I love spending time with my dogs. It is the best way to unwind and end a stressful day. I sometimes spend a few months walking barefeet on the grass to help center and ground me. It is a really simple exercise that works at alleviating stress and calming the nerves.
I usually follow this by a session with my personal trainer, we usually do HIIT or cardio kickboxing. On other days I do some relaxing Hatha yoga with my yoga guru. On the weekends or when I have free time, I love taking classes like Zumba and spinning. I currently have my eye on Ariel Yoga and Pole dancing, would love to try these out. I love walking and hiking. So when I travel I usually do a lot of walking or hiking, usually in Ladakh. I just returned Coonoor in the south where we did a short hike as well.
Massage:
2-3 times a week; I find this very therapeutic and beneficial. A relaxing massage is a perfect stress buster after a long day at work. It helps ease sore muscles, improves one’s sleep and circulation too. A nice head massage is perfect if you have a headache.
Dinner
I like to eat dinner as early as possible. I got my family hooked onto quinoa, so these days a household favourite is usually some home-made hummus and soft pita and a quinoa salad made with cherry tomatoes and avocado. We love to whip up different vegetables that are locally available and in season and turn it into a hearty soup.
I don’t deprive myself – because life is too short for that kind of deprivation. I work hard during the week so that I can indulge mindfully on the weekend. I make it a point to move often and stay active and get at least 4 workouts in every week. The weekends are usually a bit indulgent and I give in to my cravings. It could be a languid Sunday brunch with waffles, eggs benedict and chilly cheese toast or an evening with the girls or my fiancé sharing a decadent chocolate fondant.
