Eating clean with Fig

Picture this – you’ve decided that it’s time you started eating healthy, clean, and good for your body. It’s been there in the back of your mind, complete with nutritious meal plans, more fruits, more veggies, more grains, and yet when it comes down to execution you find yourself reaching for that shiny packet of crisps hidden away in the pantry. Sound familiar?

Eating healthy doesn’t always end up being as simple as one would hope. The very act of consuming food is so deeply pleasurable, that often we choose food that tastes good in the moment, over that which is actually good for our bodies. Then we barter the extra helpings for longer hours in the gym, intense workouts, or we hope to fall back on good genes and great metabolism, and somewhere along the line eating healthy takes a backseat.

I admit it’s a lot of work, it requires discipline, careful planning, a certain know-how, and right there (you might be thinking) goes all the fun out of my life; well maybe not because this is where the Fig delivery service comes in, promising a new approach to eating healthy, which includes celebrating food in its purest form. With their clean produce, seasonal, and nutritious, you don’t have to put the extra thought in eating clean because they do it for you.

What is the Fig promise? The philosophy behind the health food service is founded on the quality of their produce to keep food tasting good. The menu revolves around the seasonality of the ingredients used, offered completely free of preservatives and chemicals. They play with different recipes across different cuisines, adding a certain diversity to the palate and inadvertently making eating clean less monotonous. With their expert team of nutritionists they maintain a balance between tasteful, good food, so even comfort food like a plateful of spaghetti, or spicy Korean chicken, or a slice of blueberry cheesecake, comes to you guilt-free.

I love the fact that they use biodegradable materials for their packaging and promote recycling. The boxes that arrive at your home each day are in fact food grade and not made of plastic. Lastly, all the salads are made with hydroponic leaves and utmost care goes into ensuring that the other ingredients are free from preservatives.

The staff at Fig will work to curate a menu for you that is equal parts healthy and exciting. If you find the idea of doing meal prep by yourself- you can leave it to the experts to do it for you. We know making overnight oats day after day can get a bit monotonous but the good folk will always find ways to brighten your mornings. Check our their breakfast offerings here.

How does it work? It’s pretty straightforward, you choose a plan that best suits you. Their selection includes the daily protein fix (covers 70% of your everyday protein requirement), the fibre-rich natural detox with superfoods aimed at removing body toxins, the just salads, and finally the low carb high fat or LCHF plan. Pick your delivery time, the number of weeks you’d like it for, start date, and that’s it. Managing your subscription is made even easier via their app where you can change your plans, extend them, pause them, based on what works best for you.

Verdict – I’ll begin by saying that I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to commit to an entire subscription plan from the get-go, discipline quite frankly is something that I’m working my way towards, but Fig lets you choose from a selection of single meals or the number of days you want to begin with. You can change your subscriptions midway and if you think you need a customised menu then you simply drop a line to the in-house meal planner who gets back to you to create something that works for you. But what really appealed to me was the sheer range of options available, it made eating healthy fun when I could choose from Mediterranean, Korean, and Italian recipes, with no compromise with the flavour. And if eating healthy seems like a monumental task for you, I’d say take a load off and just order in from Fig Delivery. I can’t recommend them enough and oh if you like fish, you must try their tuna salads.
