This post is a bit of a digression because it isn’t a review nor is it a feature on the biggest health & fitness trend. Instead, it is a personal rant on the importance of self love and self preservation. A lot of us spend all our lives in uncomfortable situations, in toxic relationships, jobs we hate which invariably causes a lot of stress. This pent up stress than affects our demeanour, mood and our ability to take on life- as well as predisposing you to many health problems.
A lot of these problems stem from a lack of belief in ourselves. We always want to be thinner, smarter, better looking with a fat cheque, great bosses and a perfect marriage. Unfortunately, when none of this goes according to plan- we tend to dwell in self pity and blame ourselves for our circumstances. A lot of you don’t realise how much harm this toxicity causes to you and your wellbeing and you continue to stay in it until you can’t take it any longer.
I have decided to take charge of my wellbeing today and you should too. Here are some of the steps you can take to practice self love daily-
1) When you are down in the dumps and feel like everything is working against you- it is extremely important to count your blessings. Sit down with a pen an paper and start to jot down everything you have to be grateful for. It could be a loving family, a stable income, good health, a great group of girlfriends- whatever you wish to be grateful for. Keep adding to that list everyday and watch your life get slowly filled with joy and abundance.
2) Practice the art of letting go
We often find ourselves bogged down and frustrated because of toxic relationships in our personal life and work life. We realise that the dynamic isn’t going to change but continue to bear with it nevertheless. I want you all to empower yourselves and learn how to let go. Getting rid of old, unnecessary baggage can pave the way for newer memories filled with love. Do not dwell on the past and on forging relationships that have turned toxic. Instead surround yourself with relationships that nurture, love and cherish you and do away with the toxicity. Your mind and body will thank you later. Trust me on this one:)
3) Treat your body well
When we are going through an adversity of some sort, we often start to neglect our bodies and forget to concentrate on our bodies. Taking care of your bodies is the first step to self love and self preservation and shouldn’t be overlooked on any cost. Think about what you put into your body, declutter your kitchen, do away with harsh chemicals and pesticide laden food and start to feel the difference.
4)Find your support system
When times get rough, we can’t manage on our own. Its worth it to confide in a partner, parent, good friend or therapist when you are stressed out and dealing with any sort of adversity. Surround yourself with positive people and those who support you unconditionally. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to reach out for help. Remember that this too shall pass, and it will.
I want to end with this beautiful quote-
“How would your life be different if…You stopped allowing other people to dilute or poison your day with their words or opinions? Let today be the day…You stand strong in the truth of your beauty and journey through your day without attachment to the validation of others”
