Windchimes,Kasauli

My friend Aditi and I were invited up to Windchimes in Kasauli- a property managed by V are Family. I have been going to Kasauli every summer for a couple of weeks ever since I was 9 and going back brought back a lot of memories. The pollution in Delhi was beginning to get to me and I was aching to run away to the hills, breathe some fresh air and enjoy the slow paced life.

Kasauli

Kasauli, is not only the perfect weekend getaway from Delhi but also a cute little hill station with a peaceful vibe and old world colonial charm. We took the morning train to Kalka and a driver was there to drive us up to Kasauli. We arrived at our cottage a little over an hour later. The skies were bright and clear, the air was so much cleaner and I could tell that my lungs were more thankful for it.

Kasauli

Our cottage was a gorgeous three bedroom, fully furnished with all the amenities and staff to help you with your meals. Located only about a kilometer from Baikunth and about 5 kilometers from the Kasauli Club, this property was strategically located to give you the accessibility and the solitude when you needed it.

The place was a comfortable home stay with cozy nooks and warm ancients. We were pampered with well-cooked home food and we could eat breakfast at the terrace or by the fire in the evening. The living and dining area had a gorgeous dining area, a warm fireplace that we would cozy up to every evening with mugs of tea and hot chocolate. The staff lived on the premises and were available to help you start a bonfire, prepare tea and coffee as well as at mealtimes to prepare anything you were craving. They were very prompt, attentive and went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. You can also choose to order in for Baikunth or the club but we were pretty thrilled with the thought of home cooked food.

The cottage gives you access to the entire property when you book so you have gorgeous views of the hills and all the privacy you desire when you are holidaying with your friends and your family. They also have a whole lot of games in case you are travelling with friends or kids and want to spend the evening playing scrabble, jenga or monopoly.

Kasauli

Our mornings were spectacular at Windchimes because the monkeys and the birds would wake us up and we would help ourselves to a ginormous breakfast in the sun with filter coffee, jasmine tea eggs prepared by the chef and his wife. The rooms were well equipped and because it was really cold, we had to have the heating on for most of the day to prevent our fingers and toes from freezing over. We would leave the cottage to go for several long walks through the day and even went on a guided trek with the staff. We were sore and had worked up quite an appetite post the trek so we dove in and had a massive lunch followed by a siesta. My favourite part of the cottage was the fireplace where both Aditi and I would sit through the evenings, curled up with a book

The food was delicious and not highly spiced and we asked them to go easy on the oils too. The beauty of this property is that it feels like a ‘home away from’ where you can have absolutely everything you want. The rooms were very comfortable and we were pretty upset about leaving this gorgeous place and all the warmth and hospitality that the staff had to offer. Special thanks to Malvika for organizing this, Aman from V are Family and everyone else that made this trip possible. I cant wait to be back and highly recommend that you check out their other properties in Kasauli and Goa for your next vacation with friends and family.

Everything would slow down  in Kasauli. I was thrilled that the wifi signal wasn’t great because I desperately needed a digital detox. I could feel my stresses just melt away and all those siestas, delicious food and restful sleep at night gave me the break I needed. I was happy, rested, sated and felt ready to take on whatever life had in store for me.

A wooden staircase leads up to the three bedrooms on the first floor, each with an attached bath. The master bedroom has its own fireplace and large double doors open onto a large deck with a great view of the Kasauli Town, ideal for a sunny morning cup of tea while you catch up on your reading.
